Awards Committee
The members of this committee encourage and
promote members of the Local to be considered for local/provincial
and other awards. It selects up to eight scholarship recipients
in any one school year for the Greater Essex County Elementary
Teachers’ Local Scholarship Fund.
Budget Committee
This committee consists of the Treasurer, 1st Vice President and three other members who are responsible for estimating expenses and drafting a proposed budget to present to the membership for approval. Budget requests from committees must be received prior to September 15th.
Charity and Donations Committee
This committee consists of the Treasurer, a Vice President and a minimum of three other members. The committee is responsible for presenting terms of reference with regards to charitable donations including Children's Programs and for receiving all requests for donations.
Collective Bargaining
Committee
The Collective Bargaining Committee negotiates
and maintains the Collective Agreement with the Board. With
the assistance of the Chief Negotiator, the Collective Bargaining
Committee will provide updates to the membership at the
Stewards', General and Annual Meetings; develop and analyze
the all member survey; establish the clauses in the Preliminary
Submission; and negotiate the Collective Agreement with
the Board.
Early Years Committee
This committee consists of a minimum of four members who are responsible for identifying ways of supporting Early Years teachers and programs. The committee also promotes and responds to Early Years issues by building connections, if needed, with different organizations.
Elections Committee
This committee conducts all administrative
duties associated with elections at the annual meeting.
These duties include providing, confirming and accepting
nomination forms as well as preparing all ballots necessary
for the election.
FSL Committee
The FSL (French as a Second Language) Committee consists of a minimum of four members. The committee identifies ways of supporting FSL/ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers and programs. The committee also promotes and responds to FSL issues and promotes teaching FSL as a career.
Goodwill Committee
The Goodwill Committee acts as an ambassador
of support during times of life changing events in the lives
of ETFO members.
Health & Safety Committee
The two members of this committee have a seat
on the GECDSB Educational Joint Health & Safety Committee,
which is a legislated committee under the Occupational Health
& Safety Act (OHSA) in the province of Ontario. This
Act guarantees the rights of workers and details the duties
and responsibilities of employers. These committee members
assist other ETFO members with such issues as WHMIS, designated
substances, biological hazards, chemical hazards, indoor
air quality, ergonomics and workplace violence.

Education
This four member committee provides members with information,
materials resources and training to educate members about
racism.
- Gender Issues
This four member committee provides members with information, materials resources and training to educate members about gender issues.
- Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, Transgendered Issues
This four member committee provides members with information,
materials resources and training to educate members about
LGBT issues.
New Members Committee
The New Members Committee is designed to liaise
with first to fifth year teachers, dealing with issues and
concerns that they may have, as well as providing opportunities
for social/professional networking.
Political Action / Public Education Committee
This committee maintains political ties with a number of community organizations, educational affiliates, and committees. This committee informs members of political matters by organizing appropriate events and maintaining a member media release site. This committee assists in the election of individuals who are informed and concerned about education in Ontario. This committee encourages teachers in schools to involve themselves in community affairs and political issues.
Professional Development
Committee
This four member committee is responsible
for bringing to the attention of members information on
professional development opportunities and encouraging their
participation. As well, this committee often plans and organizes
professional development events.
Professional Development
Fund Committee
This four member committee administers “The
Teachers’ Professional Development Fund” as
outlined in the collective agreement.
Public Relations Committee
This committee strives to
seek opportunities to and participate in events which bring
the positive actions of our membership to the attention
of the broader educational community.
Recreation and Leisure Committee
This committee plans, promotes, and sponsors leisure and recreational activities designed to help enhance the health and wellness of Local members.
Social Committee
This committee is very active in organizing
all dinners and social functions held by the Local.
Teacher Education Liaison
Committee
This committee is active in maintaining a
strong working relationship with the Faculty of Education
at the University of Windsor. It provides teacher candidate
workshops and provides information to associate teachers.
