Teacher’s call For increase in spending

More consultation between the province and its teachers won't mean anything if the funding commitments don't follow, the president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation told a cheering crowd of union members Monday.

Speaking at the annual Labour Day parade, Rhonda Kimberley-Young said "while we haven't had such a relationship in recent years, the fact is that education has been underfunded for eight years and we need to see the Liberal government follow through on its promises to increase funding across the board.

Public elementary teachers sign up for takeover

TORONTO, June 2 /CNW/ - "ETFO can, and will work with the present government to find solutions, but my members' interests are paramount to strengthening the present relationship. By noon, today, every single public elementary teacher and occasional teacher local in the province will be in takeover," said Emily Noble, president, Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) at a press conference called to announce provincial negotiators will lead local bargaining teams seeking increased preparation time...

Teacher’s agree to Kennedy

TORONTO, May 3 /CNW/ - "The elementary teachers said publicly all along, offer us a process that includes a fair criteria to take before an arbitrator and we will agree. All current work actions will be suspended immediately. Our next step is to prepare the case to be heard. I believe that the board's own data will prove that the Greater Essex County District School Board can afford to improve their elementary teachers' working conditions," said Emily Noble, president, Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO).

Noble tells board to stop playing blame game

TORONTO, April 28 /CNW/ - "If the board hopes to gain public support by stripping the elementary teachers of their current preparation time and forcing an unnecessary lockout of students, then they are in for a surprise. I am proud of the principled stand that my members have taken to enable them to prepare better lessons, more detailed reports for parents and professionally grow as educators. I am disappointed and angry that in return for these efforts the board has chosen to portray them for weeks in a negative manner to the community. It's time to stop playing the blame game because it isn't working.

Teachers respond to director and chairperson's misrepresentations

TORONTO, April 19 /CNW/ - "This morning I was faxed a copy of an official statement made by the chairperson of the Greater Essex County District School Board. I am shocked at the number of deliberate misrepresentations offered in that statement made by Gale Simko-Hatfield. The most offensive accusation was that the 'teachers never had a chance to consider the board's original offer.'
That is a fact that the chair knows to be untrue. She may not like the teachers' decision but she knew that between January 12 and January 21, 2004, my local negotiating team was visiting every school in Greater Essex. My members reviewed and discussed the board's dismal December 16th offer. Having considered the board's proposal, the teachers rejected it overwhelmingly by a margin of 90.2%, at our strike vote," said Emily Noble, president, Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO).
